Yo, i'm actually in need of people to help me with gettin the stick to work for me. I'm so used to using the DS3 the stick seems reallty foreign to me. Anyone who will spar with me to help me get up to par with it would me much appreciated. Check out this article which pretty much explains what I didn't have time to fully breakdown for you the other night. My "joystick stances" change depending on what I'm doing for execution. My initial stance is stick between the index and middle with my thumb loosely on top to act as a guide. When I do more demanding inputs like x2 or x2, I modify the stance to become stick between middle and ring with thumb on top to guide (like in one of the pics in the article I posted in the link below) to do this quickly. I also play on octagonal gate (my 2D preference - 2nd is circle and for 3D fighting games like VF or Tekken I use square gate). Positioning and posture are also important and I think this article hits that mark too. My preference is standing with the stick and buttons about as high as the bottom of my ribs but if I must sit, I use two chairs the same size - the other I place my stick on with elbows on my knees. Enough of my babbling...read! www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/jul/08/tips-switching-pad-joystick/

Ok, so uh my game just instantly improved after finding a grip that was comfortable and works. On that page its like grip #6 only my thumb is on the side of the ball touching the tip of my index finger........just doing drills now to commit the movements to memory.

Arcade sticks are still hard for me, but they are so cool. They feel so right. Im going to invest in the sfxt TE stick real soon.

maullr: One that works would be the best advice i can think of at the moment but most people will jump through a flaming hoop to get a TE Hori.
pain: I know what you mean. It's still a work in progress but the more I use it and get used to it the more natural and right it feels. What's odd though is that I can use it pretty well on KOF. My timing is lacking but my execution is pretty dead on. SSFIV:AE on the other hand... extremely pitiful by comparison to me using a DS3.

What stick should I purchase? One of the best sticks you can buy in a retail spot like GameStop would be the Tournament Edition (TE) sticks from MadCatz. A bit on the pricey side but they can be customized most easily. Out of the box they're the best you can buy @ $140. I have two TE sticks both modded with octagonal gates (8-way/8 corners). The TE comes with a square-gate which is popular with the Japanese. All that other stuff later but yeah TE sticks are the way to go. Octagonal works best with moves like and in my opinion. Also, if you get PS3 TE stick, you can use it for games on your PC with an Intel mobo.

Its hard to find TE sticks I got mine at hastings. Its called Arcade Fighter. Pom stick (globe) with an octagon gate in it. Medium weight, nice size, and has a long usb cord on it so it can reach pretty far.
