May be old news to some of you by but I found this just a moment ago: [ ] THE BUZZ: Earlier this year, a Mortal Kombat “digital series” was released by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and director Kevin Tancharoen.
Tancharoen originally put together Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, a short film that featured actors such as Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya. The short won high praise among the online Mortal Kombat community, as it did a fantastic job of brining in all of the characters and lore of the series in a way that was serious, interesting, and well crafted.
At the time, while the success of that short film lead to the digital series with Warner Bros., no actual movie deal was put into place. Now, however, Warner Bros. and New Line execs have decided that it’s time to try again with a theatrical adaptation of the series, and they’ve brought staff from the digital series such as Tancharoen onboard for the project.
EGM’s TAKE: While I’m not personally a huge fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, I was really impressed with the digital series and the amazing level of quality and care it showed off. If the same dedication can be put into a full-length movie, I’m sure it’ll also be something worth watching.[/ ] Source: www.egmnow.com/articles/news/new-mortal-kombat-movie-coming-from-web-series-creator/
